After doing this
assignment, I had to think am I a good person to communicate with and a person
that one can listen to. I found the exercises
were good ways to see myself as the communicator and ways that I can improve in
communicating, verbal aggressiveness, and listening. I found the most surprising comment from my
daughter is the one that I am often am extremely careful to avoid attacking
individual intelligence when I attack their ideas. She thinks that because I always try to
correct her and try to see my point instead of hers. The insight that I gained from this week communication
is that I can learn from others just by listening and my self concept me I can
put other first and make them feel good about themselves.
Myra,
ReplyDeleteIt was helpful for me to do the exercises this week as well. I think you are right about the importance of listening to others. As educators we must be careful about not imposing our ideas on others without listening to their viewpoint first. I have found that sometimes others' ideas are actually better than the idea I had. By going into meetings or situations with an open mind, we learn new ways of doing things.
